Presidency: The Ministry's Proposal for the Purchase of Property in the Kapčiamiesčio Polygon is Especially Generous

The Lithuanian government has proposed generous compensation for property owners affected by the establishment of a military polygon, which has been positively received by officials.

The Lithuanian Ministry of National Defense has proposed compensation for owners of properties within the area designated for a new military polygon in Kapčiamiesčio. According to the proposal, owners of 13 homesteads will receive over €51,000 each, while 77 other property owners in the training area will receive more than €25,000 for non-material losses. Furthermore, forest landowners will be compensated with payments exceeding €5,000. Officials, including Gitanas Nausėda's advisor, have emphasized the uniqueness of this non-material compensation, portraying it as a generous offer to those affected.

D. Matulionis, an advisor to President Nausėda, expressed strong support for the compensation package, noting that the affected residents will likely have no complaints about the proposed financial relief. He indicated that the president is actively taking a leadership role in promoting the necessity of the polygon, emphasizing its strategic importance for national security. This aligns with Lithuania's broader defense strategy amid increasing security concerns in the region.

The establishment of the military polygon and the subsequent compensation for property owners highlights the ongoing efforts to enhance Lithuania's defense capabilities. The government is keen to assure the local population of the polygon's advantages, seeking to garner support from both the community and lawmakers. This development reflects the Lithuanian government’s focus on bolstering national security infrastructure amidst evolving geopolitical dynamics.
