NSCDC warns construction companies, contractors in Ekiti against vandalism
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has warned construction firms in Ekiti to stop vandalizing crucial fibre-optic cables and public properties.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ekiti, represented by Commandant Mr. Toma Enya, has issued a stern warning to construction companies and contractors regarding the vandalism of fibre-optic cables and public properties in the state. At a recent news briefing, Enya articulated that such actions would not be tolerated as they severely disrupt communication connectivity and hinder seamless wire interactions. He emphasized the importance of these cables, calling them Critical National Assets and Infrastructure essential for the socio-economic development of Nigeria. Enya revealed that to deter further damage, the command will conduct on-the-spot assessments of ongoing construction projects near optic fibre routes. He noted that both authorized and unauthorized excavation and construction activities leading to damage would be dealt with rigorously. This proactive measure is aimed at ensuring that all players in the construction industry coordinate effectively to prevent incidents that could undermine the integrity of vital communication infrastructure. The pledge made by NSCDC underscores the necessity of safeguarding critical communication frameworks that support various economic activities and the daily lives of citizens. By highlighting the consequences of destruction and setting a precedent for accountability, the NSCDC aims to instill a culture of responsibility among construction stakeholders while also protecting public property and enhancing the stability of communication channels across the state.
