Uudenkaupungin autotehdas and Jeti Industries Oy have signed a pre-contract for the series production of modular electric buses.
Uudenkaupungin autotehdas and Jeti Industries Oy have signed a preliminary contract to start the series production of modular electric buses at Valmet Automotive's factory. If the contract is realized, it will mark the first time in the Nordic countries that electric city and regional transport buses will be manufactured in a modern automotive factory using a contract manufacturing model. This is a significant step in promoting sustainable urban transport options in Finland and across Scandinavia.
Jeti Industries is introducing an innovative product line of electric buses tailored for public transportation needs. According to the company, this initiative utilizes both domestic and European design and component expertise, which aims to enhance the competitiveness of local manufacturing while fulfilling the growing demand for environmentally friendly public transport solutions. In recent years, Jeti Industries has generated a revenue of a few hundred thousand euros and has seen its electric buses approved for traffic use in the EU, with successful pilot programs carried out in real public transportation conditions.
As Europe moves rapidly towards the electrification of bus transport, this agreement represents a notable progress in the sector. Electric buses manufactured at Uudenkaupungin autotehdas will cater to contemporary public transport needs and contribute to lowering greenhouse gas emissions in urban areas. This development not only showcases the potential of Finnish innovation but also aligns with broader EU goals regarding sustainable transport and climate strategies.
