City Hall of SP says it will expand exits and place agents inside trios after overcrowding in megablocks during pre-Carnival

The São Paulo City Hall announced plans to improve crowd management during the upcoming street carnival following incidents of overcrowding in megablocks over the previous weekend.

The São Paulo City Hall has taken steps to enhance its contingency plan for street carnival celebrations scheduled for the coming weekend, following significant overcrowding at the megablocks on Rua da Consolação. City officials reported that they will increase the number of exits for attendees and deploy a municipal agent inside each electric trio, which are large vehicles central to the carnival parade. The agents will monitor the flow of the parades, keep an eye on any delays, and initiate immediate interventions if necessary to prevent situations like those experienced during the pre-carnival celebrations.

In addition to deploying agents within the trios, the administration plans to bolster the carnival's infrastructure by adding more exits in other major circles, including those at Ibirapuera. The measures aim not only to alleviate crowd pressures but also to ensure the safety and well-being of carnival-goers, providing quicker access to health services in case of emergencies. By repositioning health service posts and enhancing attendance teams, the city seeks to facilitate rapid responses to any incidents that may arise during the festivities.

These actions reflect the city's proactive approach in addressing previous criticisms over safety during large public events, especially as thousands are expected to attend the street carnivals which have become a significant cultural highlight in Brazil. Mayor Ricardo Nunes emphasized the importance of implementing these measures to prevent overcrowding and ensure that participants can enjoy the festivities without compromising their safety.
