Security plan for Carnival in SP includes closed metro stations and avoiding stopped trios

A new security plan for São Paulo's Carnival includes temporary closure of metro stations and stricter control measures to prevent overcrowding.

A new security plan for the São Paulo street Carnival has been announced, featuring several safety measures aimed at preventing chaos and ensuring a smoother experience for attendees. Key elements include the temporary closure of metro stations on Consolação Street, especially during major parade days, and directives aimed at keeping the carnival trios, which are mobile stages for live performances, from stopping, to avoid congestion and maintain flow during the festivities.

The proposal was discussed in a meeting involving the Military Police, representatives from the Metropolitan Civil Guard, municipal agencies, and ViaMobilidade, the operator of the Yellow Line of the metro. The designated closure times for the Paulista and Higienópolis-Mackenzie stations are set between 11 AM and 8 PM on days with large blocos (parade groups) planned. The authorities emphasized that these measures are precautionary and aim to prevent incidents of turmoil, especially following a previous incident where two blocos occupying Consolação Street led to overcrowding and chaos last weekend.

The implementation of these guidelines comes as a response to rising concerns regarding public safety during large gatherings such as the Carnival. By taking these preemptive steps, local authorities hope to ensure that the festivities can proceed with minimal disruption and enhance the safety of participants. Public response to the changes remains to be seen, but the focus on organization and control reflects a broader trend of increasing safety measures during large public events in urban areas.
