The Lagos State Government, alongside C40 Cities, has launched the Ikosi Fruit Market Biodigester Plant, a significant initiative aimed at transforming organic waste into valuable resources such as biogas for cooking, electricity, and fertilizer. This facility, located at the Ketu Fruit Market, highlights the government's commitment to sustainable waste management and its alignment with circular economy principles, which aim to minimize waste and make the best use of resources.

During the inauguration, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, emphasized the importance of the project, describing it as a milestone achievement for both the Ikosi community and Lagos State. He articulated that the facility is more than just a new project; it represents a forward-thinking strategy to address the daily challenges of waste management while simultaneously promoting environmental sustainability. Wahab's vision indicates a broader agenda to generate solutions that transform waste into economic opportunities for the local population.

The biodigester plant will implement a systematic approach to gather organic waste produced at the market, which will then be processed in an anaerobic digester.
