LAWMA begins waste evacuation along Lagos–Badagry Expressway
The Lagos Waste Management Authority has started a large-scale waste evacuation operation along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway, targeting illegal dump sites and improving environmental conditions.
The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has initiated a significant waste evacuation operation along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway, focusing particularly on the Alaba Rago area, which has faced extensive public criticism due to persistent refuse accumulation. The operation was announced in a sanitation update on the Lagos State Government’s social media, indicating a proactive approach to improving the environmental situation along this critical transportation corridor.
Heavy-duty equipment such as carriers and loaders have been deployed to the area, marking the beginning of a comprehensive sanitation strategy aimed at addressing illegal dump sites and enhancing overall hygiene in the region. The Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, emphasized that this operation is just the first step and that efforts will expand beyond Alaba Rago to include other problematic areas along the expressway.
This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to tackling waste management issues effectively, particularly in a city like Lagos, which struggles with numerous environmental challenges. By clearing these illegal dump sites, LAWMA aims not only to improve public health conditions but also to foster a cleaner and more sustainable urban environment for residents and commuters alike.
