A man was rescued by helicopter after drifting for hours in a kayak on the Pirapama Dam in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, Brazil.
A man found himself adrift for several hours in a kayak on the Pirapama Dam, located in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, near Grande Recife, Brazil. The incident unfolded on Sunday, October 8, when local authorities, including firefighters and police from the Secretary of Social Defense (SDS), were notified about a vessel adrift in the area. After receiving the emergency call, a helicopter was promptly dispatched for the rescue mission.
The helicopter pilot, Valter Beserra, detailed the swift response of the rescue team, stating that within 15 minutes of the call, they began their search for the man. The SDS released footage showing the man sitting in his kayak amidst the dam. Upon locating him, the rescue team found him somewhat disoriented and agitated, leading to immediate concern for his well-being. To ensure a safe recovery, one of the firefighters bravely jumped from the helicopter to assess and calm the victim.
Utilizing a rescue basket designed for such situations, the team successfully hoisted the man from the water back into the helicopter, concluding a dramatic operation that showcased the effectiveness and rapid response of Brazil’s emergency services. This incident underscores the risks associated with recreational activities in water bodies and the importance of having proper safety measures in place while kayaking or engaging in similar activities.
