A family of five was rescued by helicopter after being stranded due to the flooding of the Jacu River in Espírito Santo, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil.
On Monday afternoon, a family of five required a helicopter rescue after becoming stranded due to the flooding caused by the Jacu River in Espírito Santo, which is located in the Agreste region of Rio Grande do Norte. The flooding was attributed to significant rainfall, which led to the river's water level rising dramatically. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and there was no need for medical assistance following the incident.
The rescue operation was conducted by the Public Security and Social Defense Secretariat (Sesed), utilizing a helicopter to safely extract the family from their location in an agricultural area known as Cabeça do Boi within the municipality. According to the Integrated Air Operations Center (CIOPAER), the family had been in a cultivation area when the river overflowed its banks. The timely response ensured that the family was retrieved without incident, and they were subsequently handed over to the Military Fire Brigade, who taken charge of the situation.
The event highlights the challenges posed by seasonal flooding in rural areas of Brazil, particularly in regions susceptible to heavy rainfall. Just a day prior, another rescue operation had occurred involving a group of 15 people who also became trapped due to rising waters, underlining the need for ongoing readiness and community awareness regarding extreme weather conditions and potential flooding.
