Anambra Smart Schools Facing Overpopulation Challenge — Commissioner
The Anambra Government is addressing overpopulation in its Smart Schools initiative due to high student enrollment.
The Anambra Government has identified a challenge within its Smart Schools initiative, with increasing student enrollment resulting in overcrowding across several facilities. Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the Commissioner for Education, noted that the 22 Smart Schools completed in the initial phase of the program have seen a surge in student applications, leading to over-subscribed classrooms. This situation highlights the growing parental demand for quality education through this innovative initiative.
Chuma-Udeh attributed this overpopulation to a strong public confidence in the Smart Schools initiative, which has led parents to seek admission for their children in large numbers. She indicated that the state's commitment to education is evident, but acknowledged the challenges that arise from such overwhelming interest, primarily the struggles with infrastructure and accommodating the influx of students.
To tackle these challenges, the Anambra Government, under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, is planning to construct additional facilities to meet the demand. This proactive approach aims to ensure that the educational needs of all students are met, while also maintaining the quality of education that parents have come to expect from the Smart Schools initiative.
