Police unveil security awareness campaign in Anambra schools
The Anambra State Police Command has launched a security awareness program aimed at educating students on safety, vigilance, and crime prevention in schools.
The Anambra State Police Command has initiated a security awareness campaign in schools, focusing on promoting personal safety and crime prevention among students. This campaign involves interactive sessions with students and school authorities, emphasizing the importance of being vigilant, behaving responsibly, and reporting any suspicious activities that may occur on or around school grounds. The initiative is part of the police's broader community policing strategy, which seeks to engage with the youth to foster better understanding and cooperation between law enforcement and school communities.
During the launch of the program at Sacred Heart Academy in Ifite Ogwari, Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, ACP Oruru Harrison, highlighted the increasing challenges faced by youths, including cultism, drug abuse, bullying, and cybercrime. Harrison underscored the need for students to be aware of these social vices and encouraged them to maintain open lines of communication with law enforcement. He reassured students that the police are prepared to act quickly in response to any security issues that may arise within educational settings.
This campaign is significant not only for raising awareness among students but also for building a culture of safety and responsiveness within schools. By fostering positive relationships between students and police, the initiative aims to cultivate an environment where students feel secure and are equipped to contribute to their own safety and that of their peers. The success of this program could serve as a model for similar initiatives in other parts of Nigeria, addressing youth-related crime and safety concerns at the community level.
