Two people die after heavy rains recorded in Simão Dias
Two individuals tragically lost their lives in Simão Dias due to severe rainfall that caused a vehicle to be submerged in a creek.
On Sunday night, two people were found dead in the backseat of a car that became partially submerged in a creek in Simão Dias, Brazil, following intense rainfall in the region. According to the State Civil Defense department, the vehicle attempted to cross the creek in the Povoado Jacaré neighborhood when it was swept away by the current. Fortunately, the driver managed to escape before the vehicle was taken by the flooding waters.
The heavy rains resulted in widespread disruptions across the state of Sergipe over the weekend, with significant rainfall recorded in various areas. In the capital city of Aracaju, there were nine reported incidents linked to the severe weather in just 12 hours, with the northern zone witnessing the most substantial rainfall, particularly in neighborhoods like Lamarão, Porto Dantas, and Soledadade. In Lamarão alone, rainfall accumulation over the last 24 hours reached 62 millimeters, prompting the closure of two buildings in Porto Dantas.
Additionally, in Nossa Senhora do Socorro, a house wall collapsed due to the torrential rain, and the flooding almost swept away a vehicle. This series of events underscores the severe impact of the weather in this region, prompting concerns over safety and infrastructure as communities grapple with the aftermath of these dangerous conditions.
