Man dies after being swept away by floodwaters in Sorocaba (SP)

A man died in Sorocaba, Brazil, after being swept away by floodwaters caused by heavy rain, marking the second such death in the state on the same day.

A tragic incident occurred in Sorocaba, Brazil, on Saturday, where a man lost his life after being carried away by floodwaters during a sudden and intense rainstorm that affected multiple cities in São Paulo. The victim, whose name has not yet been released, experienced the fatal accident in the Jardim Guadalupe neighborhood. This incident highlights the severe impact of the storms that have swept through the region, leading to loss of life and significant disruption.

On the same day, another person was reported dead in São Bernardo do Campo, a city in the Greater São Paulo area, also as a result of the intense rainfall. According to the Fire Department, this individual was caught by the rushing water and became trapped in a vehicle. Despite rescue efforts, the victim did not survive. These two fatalities underscore the dangerous conditions that arise from heavy rainfalls and the urgent need for preparedness and safety measures in flood-prone locations.

Since the initiation of the SP Sempre Alerta-Chuvas Operation on December 1, the Civil Defense has documented a total of 21 deaths related to rainfall in the state, with 11 specifically attributed to flooding events. Meteorological forecasts indicate that heavy rainfall will continue affecting the region, prompting the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) to issue alerts for dangerous conditions related to intense rains across the entire state of São Paulo, heightening concerns for public safety and emergency response.
