TERNA wins 1 billion euro rail contracts in Romania
TERNA has secured contracts worth 1 billion euros for railway projects in Romania in collaboration with Alstom Romania.
TERNA, the construction subsidiary of GEK TERNA Group, has been awarded significant rail contracts in Romania, totaling 1 billion euros, as announced by Căile Ferate Române (CFR). This marks a major milestone for the company, indicating their strong presence in the European market. The projects involve two critical sections of the Craiova-Drobeta Turnu Severin-Caransebeș railway line, which will undergo design and complete reconstruction under their stewardship.
The contracts encompass Lot 1, which includes the Craiova-Filiași segment with a budget of 543.4 million euros, and Lot 2, covering the Filiași-Igiroasa section, budgeted at 449.2 million euros. TERNA leads the consortium with Alstom Romania, holding a majority share in both projects, thereby affirming its dominant role within the partnership. The timeline is set for studies to be completed within 12 months, followed by a construction period lasting 36 months, positioning the project for completion soon.
This ambitious undertaking not only enhances Romania's railway infrastructure but also reflects a growing collaboration between Greek and Romanian companies in public works. The projects are expected to improve connectivity in the region, potentially boosting economic activity and providing improved transport services for both freight and passengers. The successful execution of these contracts could lead to further opportunities for TERNA in Eastern Europe as infrastructure investments increase.
