'Gift of Fools': Memorial Donation Campaign for Cardinal Kim Soo-hwan's 17th Anniversary of Passing
A memorial mass was held at Myeongdong Cathedral to commemorate the 17th anniversary of Cardinal Kim Soo-hwan's passing, launching a new donation campaign in his honor.
On the 17th anniversary of Cardinal Kim Soo-hwan’s passing, ‘Gift of Fools,’ a charity organization led by Bishop Koo Yo-bu, held a memorial mass at Myeongdong Cathedral in Seoul. This event served not only to honor the legacy of the late Cardinal but also to introduce a new initiative called the ‘Memorial and Legacy Donation Campaign - Memory and Promise.’ This campaign invites the public to contribute through a portion of funeral condolence payments and estate donations, facilitated easily via Hana Bank.
The Gift of Fools organization was founded in February 2010 on the first anniversary of Cardinal Kim’s passing. It is dedicated to assisting those in need regardless of their race, nationality, religion, or ideology, and operates solely on donations without government support. The foundation aims to realize Cardinal Kim’s vision of creating a world where 'people live as people,' focusing on marginalized communities such as low-income children and youth, single mothers, and migrants. Each year, they commemorate his spirit by holding memorial masses.
This year’s memorial mass not only deepens the community’s connection to Cardinal Kim’s philanthropic spirit but also encourages broader participation in charitable activities through the announced donation campaign. The ‘Memory and Promise’ initiative seeks to foster a culture of social giving in remembrance of the Cardinal's values of love and sharing, potentially impacting many lives in the community that the foundation supports.
