Criminals kill 2 guards and injure 2 others in rifle attack on Marajó Island (PA)

On Saturday night in Portel, a municipality of 67,000 inhabitants on Marajó Island, two municipal guards were killed and two others seriously injured during a coordinated rifle attack. The incident occurred around 11:30 PM when a black vehicle without license plates approached a group of patrolling guards. The assailants unleashed a hail of gunfire exceeding a dozen shots, leading to the two guards attempting to escape, which resulted in their motorcycles crashing due to their injuries.
According to police reports, the guards were patrolling the area when the attack occurred. The initial two guards, Alessandro Oliveira Freitas and Iago Fernando Medeiros Pereira, suffered critical injuries, with Freitas dying at the scene. Pereira was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving. The other two guards who were also shot were taken to the Regional Hospital of Breves; they underwent surgeries and are currently in stable condition.
