The 75th Fruit and Flower Festival in Ambato featured children as the main participants in its kickoff parade despite the cold and rain.
On February 7, Ambato, Ecuador witnessed its 75th edition of the Fruit and Flower Festival (FFF) with a kickoff parade that drew hundreds of spectators despite inclement weather. The event took place along Cevallos Avenue, culminating at the municipal building in the city center and prominently featured children aged 8 to 12 years from 35 educational institutions. The celebrations mark a significant milestone for the festival, showcasing the community's resilience and spirit even in adverse conditions.
Valeria López, crowned as Ambato’s sovereign for 2024, presided over the parade and shared her mixed emotions of nostalgia and joy as her reign comes to a close. She emphasized her gratitude for being able to serve the community through social initiatives, illustrating the festival's aim to foster close ties between the crown and the public. This connection highlights the social aspect of the festival, which goes beyond mere celebrations to encompass community engagement.
Additionally, the parade featured 11 candidates for the Ambato queen, who paraded in convertible vehicles. The event not only celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the area but also provides a platform to recognize and elevate young talents within the community. The FFF, a pillar of Ambato's identity, aligns festivities with social contributions, paving the way for both entertainment and civic participation as it enters its diamond anniversary year.
