A tragic avalanche occurred near Pizzo Meriggio, in Albosaggia, Italy, leaving two skiers dead and one seriously injured. The incident took place when a group of three skiers ventured off-piste and were caught in the avalanche. Emergency services were alerted, leading to a rapid response that included three helicopters from medical and rescue services.
Upon arrival, medical teams were able to reach two of the skiers quickly, but they regrettably confirmed the fatalities of two individuals while the third skier required urgent medical attention. The third person was later discovered buried beneath the snow, necessitating a specialized extraction operation involving members of the Fire Brigade's SAF unit, who were flown in to assist in the rescue efforts.
