A tragic avalanche struck the Val Ridanna area in South Tyrol, Italy, just before 11.40am local time on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to three others. The incident occurred at a high altitude of 2,445 meters on Cima d’Incendio, as ten people with Arva avalanche transceivers were caught in the snow mass. Of the ten swept away, eight survived, but seven of those sustain injuries, three of them serious.

The scale of the rescue operation was significant, involving five helicopters and a coordinated effort from the Innsbruck operations center. Medical facilities in the region were placed on alert as intensive care beds were requested in hospitals located in Merano, Bolzano, and Bressanone. Local authorities, including the Guardia di Finanza and various Alpine rescue teams, mobilized quickly to search for those missing and to provide aid to the injured.
