LASEMA holds mental health retreat for staff

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency conducted a retreat focused on mental health management for its senior staff to improve disaster management capabilities.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) recently held a two-day retreat centered on mental health management for its senior staff at Pearlwort Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos State. The initiative aimed to enhance the participants' abilities in disaster prevention and management as the new year approaches, highlighting the need for mental health awareness within emergency response roles.

During the retreat, the LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, emphasized the risks that emergency responders face regarding their mental health. He pointed out that the demanding nature of emergency management can lead to significant stress and challenges, making it essential for staff to have opportunities for relaxation and rejuvenation to maintain their productivity levels. The event reflects the broader commitment of the Lagos State government, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to improve emergency management services in the state.

Oke-Osanyintolu further stated that the retreat is part of ongoing efforts to reduce emergencies in Lagos State and enhance the overall effectiveness of the agency's operations. He expressed optimism that such training would not only contribute to the wellbeing of individual staff members but also lead to a more proactive and resilient approach in dealing with emergencies, ultimately benefiting the wider community.
