Finnish snow sculptors won in Japan
A Finnish team won an international snow sculpting competition in Sapporo, Japan, with their sculpture titled 'Momentary Stillness.'
The Finnish snow sculpting team achieved international recognition by winning the snow sculpting competition held in Sapporo, Japan. Their masterpiece, titled 'Momentary Stillness', stood out in the 50th edition of this renowned annual event, which draws large crowds during the Sapporo Snow Festival. The Finnish participants, led by team member Saija Koskelainen, spoke about the excellent sculpting conditions, emphasizing the ideal weather with a constant mild frost that helped them maintain the quality of their work.
The competition began on Tuesday as each team was assigned a snow cube measuring 27 cubic meters to carve their sculptures. The Finnish team utilized tools that were brought from Finland, including sculpting knives, rasps, and trowels. They dedicated four workdays to meticulously crafting the sculpture, working long hours into the night to ensure every detail was executed flawlessly. While under considerable time pressure, the team's commitment and passion for their craft were evident as they pushed to perfect the sculpture until the very last moment.
