First Home Port Cruise Operation Linking Air and Rail to Busan Port... First Example of Regional Stay-Type Cruise
The first cruise ship departing from Busan Port for overseas travel, utilizing links from air and rail, has arrived, marking a significant development in regional tourism.
A groundbreaking cruise operation has been initiated with the arrival of the Ponant cruise ship 'Le Soleal' at Busan Port's Yeongdo Cruise Terminal. This event marks the first instance in South Korea where international visitors travel by air and rail to Busan and then embark on a cruise to an overseas destination, specifically Osaka, Japan. The cruise ship has a capacity for 320 people, including both passengers and crew, and will have subsequent trips from Busan port in the coming months.
The passengers on 'Le Soleal' entered South Korea through Incheon Airport, explored Seoul over two days, and then traveled to Busan via the KTX train. During their stay in Busan, they visited notable attractions such as Haedong Yonggungsa Temple and Haeundae Beach before setting sail for Japan. This operation also facilitates the return of foreign passengers who previously arrived in Busan from Osaka, enabling them to explore local attractions before heading back to Incheon Airport.
Busan Port Authority has recognized the importance of boosting local economies by attracting foreign tourists to stay in the region. Previously, foreign cruise tourists primarily traveled to transit points near the capital, limiting their exploration of other regions like Busan. The introduction of 'Le Soleal' is seen as a step forward towards promoting local tourism and ensuring that foreign tourists contribute to regional spending during their visit, thereby enhancing Busan's appeal as a cruise destination.
