New badge to help specific pregnant women get a seat on a bus or train

Transport for London has launched a new 'Babies on Board' badge to assist pregnant women expecting multiples in securing a seat on public transport.

Transport for London (TfL) has introduced a new badge, the 'Babies on Board' badge, aimed specifically at pregnant women expecting multiple babies. This launch coincides with the 20th anniversary of the original Baby on Board design, which encourages fellow passengers to offer their seats to those in need. The initiative is part of TfL's ongoing efforts to improve the experience of pregnant women on public transport and ensure they receive the support they require during travel.

The 'Babies on Board' badge initiative comes as a response to previous research conducted by TfL, which revealed that pregnant women often face challenges in finding a seat during busy commutes. The study indicated that pregnant women on the Tube typically stood for an average of five stops before being offered a seat, with a notable 35% never receiving an offer at all. These statistics highlight the necessity of the badge system to foster a culture of consideration and support on public transport.

The badges are free and can be ordered online or collected at major transport hubs. In addition to promoting awareness among passengers, TfL has partnered with retailers such as John Lewis and Uniqlo to raise the profile of this initiative. By encouraging awareness and responsiveness from fellow commuters, TfL aims to enhance the travel experience for expectant mothers and create a more inclusive environment on public transport.
