Tree 'revived' by entrepreneur from Paraná after R$ 18,000 investment grows a 1-meter branch: 'It was worth it'
A businesswoman in Paraná has successfully revitalized a Ficus elastica tree, which she invested R$ 18,000 to save, witnessing its growth and resilience over 15 months.
Josilene Bertolin Irmer, an entrepreneur from Apucarana in northern Paraná, has dedicated 15 months to nurturing a Ficus elastica tree, investing R$ 18,000 to ensure its survival after a tumultuous period where it had fallen and damaged cars. The tree, which is also known as rubber plant, is a significant part of her childhood memories, leading her to adopt and care for it after its collapse. After extensive care, including a specialized fertilization and irrigation system, the tree has shown remarkable progress, producing new branches and signs of life.
Following the initial damage caused when the tree fell in December 2024, Irmer worked diligently to replant the tree on her family's property. By August 2025, just seven months post-collapse, the tree had successfully produced ten new shoots on its trunk, demonstrating resilience through a structured care regimen developed by Irmer. This growth has been a source of joy and validation for Irmer, who has expressed her satisfaction and belief that the investment was worthwhile.
The story underscores not only Irmer's commitment to the tree but also reflects a broader narrative about urban ecology and the sentimental value of natural elements within community spaces. Such efforts can enhance awareness of environmental stewardship, showcasing how individual contributions can make a significant difference in preserving urban greenery, especially as cities deal with challenges related to climate change and habitat loss.
