Grimaldi: €50 million financing for the 'Grande Istanbul'

Grimaldi Euromed S.p.A. has entered into a €50 million loan agreement with BNL BNP Paribas to finance the purchase of the new car carrier ship 'Grande Istanbul' as part of its fleet renewal program.

Grimaldi Euromed S.p.A., a subsidiary of the Grimaldi Group, has successfully secured a €50 million loan from BNL BNP Paribas, marking an important step in their longstanding partnership. This financing will support the partial acquisition of the new vehicle carrier ship, the 'Grande Istanbul', which is intended to enhance the Grimaldi fleet dedicated to transporting vehicles. The loan is set for a duration of 10 years and signifies Grimaldi's commitment to modernizing its maritime assets.

The 'Grande Istanbul', delivered in late November 2025, boasts a transport capacity exceeding 9,000 CEU and features advanced environmental technologies aimed at reducing carbon emissions by up to 50%. As part of Grimaldi's broader fleet renewal initiative, which comprises a total of 17 PCTC vessels with a combined investment of over $1.6 billion, this acquisition is pivotal not only for operational efficiency but also for promoting sustainability within the shipping industry.

In addition to its capacity and environmental efficiencies, the 'Grande Istanbul' has received certification as 'Ammonia Ready' from RINA, underlining its readiness for future fuel alternatives. It is also equipped with cold ironing systems, which further bolster the Grimaldi Group's sustainability strategy. This initiative aligns with global trends towards greener shipping practices and positions Grimaldi as a forward-thinking leader in the maritime transport sector.
