Ceilândia, 55 years: exhibition celebrates 'tireless' and the memory of the administrative region of DF

Ceilândia celebrates its 55th anniversary with an exhibition that reflects on its history and cultural heritage.

This week marks the 55th anniversary of Ceilândia, the largest and most populous administrative region in the Federal District of Brazil. The celebration kicks off on Monday, March 23, with the opening of the exhibition titled "Terra dos Incansáveis: Ceilândia 55 anos" at the Galeria Risofloras in Praça do Cidadão, running until April 11. The display features artwork from local artists that engages with the history, memory, and collective experiences that have shaped this emblematic territory.

The exhibition draws inspiration from the origins of Ceilândia, which was established in 1971 as part of the Campaign for the Eradication of Invasions (CEI) that displaced thousands of families to the area. According to Gu da Cei, the artist and curator of the exhibition, “Ceilândia, like the Federal District, is born from displacement.” The name reflects the marks of a political process that has greatly influenced the region's development and identity.

Through this exhibition, artists aim to highlight both the struggles and the resilience of the people of Ceilândia over the decades. The showcases evoke a deep appreciation for the community's cultural richness and the indomitable spirit of its residents, fostering a greater understanding of the region's past impact on its present identity. The celebration serves not only as a marker of history but also as a reminder of the ongoing journey of its people.
