Lagos firefighters rescue knife-wielding man from well
Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service successfully rescued a knife-wielding man who was found in a deep well in Ikorodu, Nigeria.
In a dramatic incident in the Owutu area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, responders from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service managed to rescue a man armed with a knife from a deep well. The incident occurred early on a Sunday morning, prompting a swift response from the Ikorodu Fire Station. Controller General Margaret Adeseye reported that the man was found inside the well and was exhibiting evasive behavior, complicating the rescue efforts as he resisted them while wielding the knife.
The challenge for the firefighting team was heightened as they navigated the delicate situation, ensuring both their safety and that of the man. Police officers from the Owutu Division were called in to assist during the operation, which required precision in handling the ordeal without escalating tensions or endangering the individual. In a video from the scene, the man claimed that he had been assaulted prior to his being found in the well, adding a layer of complexity to the incident.
The successful rescue operation not only saved the manβs life but also underlined the bravery and professionalism of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service. Earlier that same day, the agency addressed two separate fire incidents, including one at an abandoned warehouse in Ikeja, indicating the teamβs commitment to public safety and emergency response across multiple fronts.
