Eid-el-Fitr: COAS urges troops to defend national sovereignty

The Chief of Army Staff of Nigeria has urged troops to remain committed to defending national sovereignty during a Sallah luncheon.

During a special Eid-el-Fitr Sallah luncheon held at the Forward Operations Base in Sobe, Edo State, the Chief of Army Staff of the Nigerian Army, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, emphasized the importance of troop resilience in the defense of peace, unity, and Nigeria's national sovereignty. He stressed that the nation's territorial integrity and the safety of Nigerian citizens hinge significantly on the steadfastness of the armed forces. General Shaibu's call to action serves not only as a motivational push but also highlights the ongoing security challenges facing Nigeria, prompting the military to remain vigilant and proactive in their duties.

Represented by Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, the Commander of the 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, General Shaibu underscored the army's commitment to enhancing troop morale through welfare-driven initiatives. He recognized the vital role of collaboration among the military and various security agencies in addressing the multifaceted security issues in the country. Such initiatives aim to foster a healthier work environment for the troops, thus enabling them to perform their duties more effectively and efficiently.

Furthermore, this statement by the COAS underlines the broader context of Nigeria's ongoing fight against insurgency, banditry, and communal conflicts, which threaten national stability. The Nigerian Army's commitment to maintaining security and peace not only reflects their readiness to act but also symbolizes the government’s assurance to its citizens of their safety and well-being during festive periods like Eid-el-Fitr, when national unity is especially poignant.
