Hundreds of people bid farewell to the late director Jānis Streičs
Hundreds gathered in Riga to pay tribute to renowned director Jānis Streičs at a ceremony he had planned before his passing.
Today, several hundred admirers of Jānis Streičs's talent and work gathered at the Latvian Society House in Riga to bid him farewell. The ceremony was in line with Streičs's own wishes and plans prior to his passing. Friends and colleagues shared heartfelt memories about his contributions to Latvian cinema and culture, highlighting his profound impact on the national artistic landscape.
Among the mourners were actors, composers, and dancers, including actress Olga Dreģe, who expressed gratitude for Streičs's belief in his students' potential, stating he challenged them to embrace all opportunities. Composer Pēteris Vasks noted how Streičs uplifted the self-esteem of many through his work and reminded attendees of the importance of the nation’s collective spirit, which Streičs captured beautifully through his films and artistic lens.
