Jānis Streičs, an esteemed Latvian director known for his contributions to cinema and theater, has passed away at the age of 89. His family announced that a public farewell will take place on March 22, from 12 PM to 2:30 PM at the Great Hall of the Latvian Society in Riga. The farewell ceremony will honor his multifaceted career as a director, screenwriter, actor, and painter, while celebrating his warm-hearted character that touched many lives.

At the farewell, attendees will be able to watch several of Streičs' films, many of which have earned the status of classics in Latvian cinema. Starting at 12 PM, the films will be screened in Vērmanes Garden as part of the event, with support from the Riga City Council. Furthermore, an official guestbook will be available for friends, colleagues, fans, and supporters to sign, allowing them to share their memories and words of appreciation for Streičs' remarkable contributions to the arts.
