Democratic Gyeonggi Governor Preliminary Candidates Narrowed Down to Han Joon-ho, Choo Mi-ae, and Kim Dong-yeon
The Democratic Party of Korea has narrowed down its candidates for the Gyeonggi governor position to Han Joon-ho, Choo Mi-ae, and incumbent Kim Dong-yeon for the upcoming June 3 local elections.
The Democratic Party of Korea has officially narrowed its list of candidates for the Gyeonggi governor position ahead of the June 3 local elections. According to So Byeong-hoon, the Central Party’s Election Management Committee chair, the remaining three candidates—Members of Parliament Han Joon-ho and Choo Mi-ae and current governor Kim Dong-yeon—were selected from a recent preliminary election. The preliminary voting took place over two days and was conducted purely through a ballot by party members.
Following this announcement, the three candidates are scheduled to partake in the main primary election, which will occur from July 5 to 7. The primary election will rely on a combination of party member votes and public opinion polls, each contributing 50% to the final decision. If no candidate secures a majority of the votes, a runoff election will be conducted from July 15 to 17 to determine the ultimate nominee.
This process comes amid controversies regarding unauthorized leaks of candidate rankings and vote percentages. So Byeong-hoon cautioned party members against believing such claims, noting that these reports are false and could significantly impact the election process. The party is prepared to investigate and take necessary actions against any attempts to manipulate the election outcome, maintaining transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
