Duro Kuteyi, the Managing Director of Spectra Industries Limited in Nigeria, has voiced concerns regarding the government's neglect of local food processors, stressing that their involvement is crucial for achieving food security in the country. In an interview, he emphasized the need for industrialization in agriculture and pointed out that indigenous food processors play a vital role that is currently overlooked. Kuteyi underscored that without proper support, food security remains a distant goal for Nigeria, despite new trends such as declining food prices.

One of the significant challenges highlighted by Kuteyi is the management of electricity and raw materials, as well as the financial burden of machine procurement. He noted that inadequate electricity supply forces manufacturers to rely on costly diesel generators, making operations less sustainable. According to him, for local manufacturers to thrive and contribute effectively to food security, they need a stable electricity supply and easier access to necessary resources, which would lower operational costs and improve productivity.

Furthermore, Kuteyi urged the government to better support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the food processing sector, arguing that they are critical to the economy and food supply chain. He pointed out that without governmental prioritization and protection for these businesses, Nigeria's food insecurity will continue to be a pressing issue. As local processors remain under-supported, the country’s aim for enhanced food security appears increasingly fragile.
