The incident occurred in Helsinki last November when a 16-year-old girl, returning to her children's home, stopped to smoke in a nearby underpass. There, she encountered 39-year-old Alaum Alaum, who attempted to solicit her for sex by offering drugs and money. Despite her repeated refusals and the urgency to return home, Alaum followed her, forcibly dragging her to a dumpster where he committed the assault.

During the attack, Alaum restrained the girl and physically overpowered her, despite her attempts to scream and resist him. The girl was reportedly heavily intoxicated at the time, which further compromised her ability to defend herself. The rape lasted approximately five minutes, after which the attacker left the scene without uttering a word.
