A 32-year-old driver was arrested for illegally carrying restricted-use ammunition hidden in his vehicle on BR-251 in Montes Claros, Brazil.
On Saturday, a 32-year-old driver was apprehended on BR-251 near Montes Claros for carrying ammunition illegally. The Federal Highway Police (PRF) intercepted the vehicle after receiving tips about hidden arms and ammunition being transported. During their search, police discovered .22 and 9mm caliber rounds stashed in the air filter compartment of the engine. They also recovered 100 caliber 12 rounds and three knives concealed under the back seat of the car.
The driver claimed he was a CAC (collector, sport shooter, and hunter), which indicates he has some recognized permission to own firearms. However, he was arrested for transporting restricted-use ammunition in an irregular manner, which is a serious violation of Brazilian gun laws. The police took custody of the vehicle, which had several administrative irregularities, and moved it to an authorized garage.
This incident sheds light on ongoing concerns regarding illegal arms transport in Brazil, particularly in regions where criminal activity is prevalent. The PRF's proactive measures to combat such violations underscore their commitment to improving road safety and law enforcement. The case serves as a reminder of the legal obligations firearm owners face and the penalties for failing to comply with regulations. The ongoing investigations into the driver's claims may reveal more about his activities as a CAC and his reason for transporting such a large quantity of ammunition.
