Austrian ski jumper achieved first World Cup stage victory, Aigro 33.
Austrian ski jumper Stephan Embacher won his first individual World Cup event, finishing first at the Vikersund competition, while Artti Aigro placed 33rd.
At the World Cup ski jumping stage in Vikersund, Austrian athlete Stephan Embacher claimed first place with a total score of 459.1 points, marking the first individual World Cup victory of his career. He was able to secure his lead from the first round, with jumps of 232 and 225 meters, outperforming strong competitors such as Japan's Tomofumi Naito and Norway's Johann Andre Forfang, who finished second and third, respectively.
Embacher, a 20-year-old athlete, impressed the audience with his consistency and skill throughout the competition. Although Naito managed an impressive jump of 240 meters in the first round, Embacher maintained his lead by delivering steady performances in both rounds. This achievement is particularly significant for Embacher, who previously won a gold medal in the team event at the upcoming Milan-Cortina Olympics, underscoring his rising profile in the sport.
In contrast, Estonian jumper Artti Aigro fell short of advancing, finishing in 33rd place after his first jump of 194.5 meters, scoring 160.0 points. His failure to progress means that he will not compete in the second round on Sunday, highlighting the challenges and competitiveness of the World Cup series, where even seasoned jumpers must consistently perform at their best to succeed. The competition will continue with another jumping round on Sunday at Vikersund, where athletes will have a chance to redeem themselves and improve their standings.
