Off-duty police officer shot during attempted robbery in Quintino

An off-duty police officer was shot during an exchange of gunfire with assailants in Quintino Bocaiúva, located in North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, on Friday night. The incident occurred while the officer was walking his dog, when he was approached by criminals who attempted to rob him. Witnesses reported that two motorcycles with two men each circled the police officer, raising suspicion before they approached more closely.
As one of the motorcyclists drew a pistol, a shootout ensued, resulting in the officer being shot in the chest. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital where he underwent surgery. The medical facility has reported that while his condition is serious, it is stable, indicating that he is currently receiving proper care following the serious injury he sustained.
In the aftermath of the incident, military police from the 9th BPM (Rocha Miranda) have initiated a manhunt in the area to find the suspects involved in this violent crime. The occurrence has been officially recorded at the 29th DP (Madureira), where investigations are ongoing, highlighting the continued violence faced by police and civilians in urban areas of Brazil.
