Kirishima Wins for the Third Time at the Spring Sumo Tournament, despite Losing to Ananohitaki, Leads by Two Against Followers
Kirishima secured his third victory at the Spring Sumo Tournament despite losing to Ananohitaki, maintaining a two-star lead over his competitors.
At the 14th day of the Spring Sumo Tournament held at Edion Arena Osaka, Sekiwake Kirishima, aged 29, achieved his third title after a long wait of 14 tournaments. Although he suffered a defeat against Ozeki Ananohitaki, marking his second loss of the tournament, he was fortunate that his closest competitors, Kotonoshin and Toyoshoryu, both lost as well, thus ensuring his victory without having to wait for the final day of the tournament. Kirishima, originally from Mongolia, made his debut under the ring name Kiribamiyama in 2015 and ascended to the rank of Ozeki in 2023 after winning his second championship at the Kyushu Tournament.
