Taloussanomat: Toivo Sukari announces the purchase of Asko
Businessman Toivo Sukari has announced that his company, Sukari Group, has purchased the bankrupt furniture retailer Asko.
Toivo Sukari, a Finnish businessman, has revealed that his Sukari Group has successfully acquired the furniture brand Asko, which recently fell into bankruptcy. This acquisition, as reported by Taloussanomat, signifies a strategic move by Sukari, who aims to revitalize the respected furniture brand and continue its business operations. He emphasized the intent to provide Asko a 'new life' rather than merely acquiring its intellectual property.
Sukari described this acquisition as a significant investment for his group, indicating that negotiations for the deal had been underway since last summer. He hinted at further plans involving another company, Sotka, which was also part of the assets owned by Indoor Group before its bankruptcy earlier this year. However, Sukari stated that their immediate focus would be on re-establishing Asko, with future developments regarding Sotka still undecided.
The acquisition of Asko comes on the heels of Indoor Group's bankruptcy declaration at the beginning of February, raising questions about the future of the established furniture brand. Although Taloussanomat struggled to reach Asko's bankruptcy estate administrator for confirmation and further details regarding the acquisition, Sukari’s commitment to continuing Asko’s operations signals a potentially positive turn for the brand and its employees in the wake of its financial troubles.
