Adekunle Gold Foundation supports 400 sickle cell carriers
The Adekunle Gold Foundation has organized a medical outreach for over 400 individuals living with Sickle Cell Disease in Lagos, providing essential healthcare services.
The Adekunle Gold Foundation recently conducted its quarterly medical outreach in Lagos, aimed at supporting individuals affected by Sickle Cell Disease. In collaboration with the Sickle Cell Advocacy and Management Initiative, the outreach served more than 400 patients, offering a variety of crucial medical services tailored to meet the needs of those living with this condition. These services included specialist consultations, diagnostic tests, blood transfusions for patients suffering from severe anemia, pain management, physiotherapy support, and the provision of essential medications.
Among the key highlights of the outreach was the tailored care provided to patients, which included medication and treatment supplies sufficient to last for three months. The initiative highlights the urgent need for more focused healthcare interventions for sickle cell patients in Nigeria, a country that faces the highest burden of this genetic disorder globally, with millions living with the disease. Despite its prevalence, sickle cell disease does not receive the same level of attention or funding as other health issues, which has significant implications for patient care and public health policies.
This outreach not only provides immediate support to those affected but also raises awareness about the critical challenges faced by sickle cell patients in Nigeria. As the foundation continues to advocate for better healthcare resources and increased public awareness, it underscores the importance of collective action in addressing this significant public health issue that impacts countless families across the nation.
