City Hall removes families from homes under construction for works in Várzea Grande
The City Hall of Várzea Grande, Brazil, has begun relocating families from residential areas to facilitate the resumption of housing constructions under the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program.
The City Hall of Várzea Grande, located in the metropolitan region of Cuiabá, has commenced the process of relocating families living in the Padre Aldacir José Carmiel and Isabel Campos residential areas. This move is part of an initiative to restart construction works that have been halted since 2016 and to ultimately deliver 1,100 housing units under the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program. The initiative was launched on Thursday, the 19th, highlighting the urgency to complete these housing projects to accommodate residents in need of affordable housing.
According to the mayor, Flávia Moretti, families currently residing in these housing developments are being transitioned to a social rental program. This decision aims to ensure that these families can vacate the properties while construction work proceeds effectively and safely. The municipality has assured residents that once the construction is completed, they will have the opportunity to reapply for housing through a new selection process based on registration and lottery, aligning with the guidelines of the housing program.
The resumption of construction in Várzea Grande marks a significant step towards addressing the backlog of housing projects that have faced delays over the years. The local government emphasizes its commitment to fulfilling housing needs in the community, especially after years of stalled projects, ultimately hoping to provide stable and secure living conditions for the residents it serves.
