Federal Government promises new housing for those affected by the rains in Zona da Mata: 'Everyone who lost their home will receive one'
The Brazilian Federal Government is committing to provide new housing for families affected by recent rains in the Zona da Mata region.
The recent severe rains that devastated the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais have prompted the Brazilian Federal Government to intervene with a promise to deliver new housing to families who lost their homes. During a visit to the affected areas, President Lula assured that his administration's top priority is to ensure no family is left without support, emphasizing that, "Everyone who lost their home will receive a house." This statement reflects the government's commitment to address the urgent housing needs following the disaster.
In addition to providing housing, Jader Filho, the Minister of Cities, announced that the government will subsidize homes worth up to R$ 200,000 for affected families. The initiative aims not only to rebuild homes but also to implement infrastructure improvements that can prevent future disaster scenarios. These include works on slope stabilization and macrodrainage systems that are critical in mitigating flooding risks, hence ensuring the safety and sustainability of the housing solutions provided.
The government plans to dispatch technical teams from the Ministry of Cities to the cities of Juiz de Fora and UbΓ‘ as early as next Monday. They will collaborate with local mayors to outline a comprehensive strategy that encompasses both residential rebuilding and essential preventive measures. This coordinated approach is crucial to preventing recurring tragedies in the area and restoring the lives of those affected by the recent weather events.
