Storm Affects Water Station and Disrupts Supply in 11 Neighborhoods of Várzea Grande (MT)

Heavy rains in Várzea Grande, Brazil, disrupted water supply to 11 neighborhoods after causing a landslide near a water treatment facility.

On Sunday, heavy rains in Várzea Grande, Mato Grosso, led to significant disruptions in the water supply for 11 neighborhoods due to a landslide affecting the Estação de Tratamento de Água II Júlio Campos. The Department of Water and Sewage (DAE) reported that the rainfall caused a landslide near the water intake area, which temporarily compromised the operations of the water treatment system.

In response to the crisis, DAE's technical teams have been working tirelessly to complete emergency repairs at the treatment station. They have announced that water supply to the affected neighborhoods is gradually being restored, following the conclusion of the most critical maintenance phase. However, officials cautioned that the system is still undergoing finalization and monitoring to ensure the complete and safe resumption of water services.

As of Monday, DAE teams continued their efforts to guarantee the water supply returns to normal levels. The neighborhoods impacted include São Benedito, Jardim dos Estados, Parque Atlântico, and Maria Isabel, highlighting the storm's extensive local impact on daily life in these areas. Residents are encouraged to remain patient as recovery operations persist to stabilize the water supply for all residents.
