Macs Sorocaba opens exhibitions that reflect on ways of inhabiting: from the Amazon to love

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Sorocaba inaugurates two exhibitions focusing on the theme of dwelling, one reflecting on the Amazon and the other on love as an emotional and political construct.

The Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Sorocaba (Macs) has opened two new exhibitions that delve into the concept of 'habitation.' The first, titled 'Rapsódias Amazônicas' and curated by Fabio Magalhães, features approximately 30 paintings and an installation by artist José Roberto Aguilar. This exhibition draws inspiration from Aguilar's experiences with riverine communities in the Amazon, inviting viewers to contemplate the deep, cyclical relationships present in the forest and how these can influence our understanding of home and community.

The second exhibition, a collective titled 'Que seja casa, o amor. Ainda que amar desabrigue' (Let Love Be a Home, Even if Loving Displaces), takes a different but complementary approach by exploring love's emotional and political dimensions. Through various artistic expressions, this show encourages visitors to consider how love can shape our living spaces and societal ties, albeit often leading to displacement or the loosening of traditional familial units.

Both exhibitions prompt a broader conversation on the connections between art, identity, and place, each tackling the essence of what it means to inhabit a space, whether it's grounded in the environment of the Amazon or the intimate realms of personal relationships. The events serve as a reminder of how art can be a powerful vehicle for reflection and dialogue about our ways of living in a complex world.
