4th edition of Frestas brings together exhibitions, artistic barbershop, and rap dance at Sesc Sorocaba

The 4th edition of Frestas festival at Sesc Sorocaba featured free exhibitions, urban interventions, and performances highlighting important social themes.

The first weekend of the 4th edition of the Frestas festival brought a vibrant array of cultural and artistic activities to Sesc Sorocaba, São Paulo. The event, supported by TV TEM, offered free access to exhibitions, urban interventions, and artistic performances throughout the venue. Among the highlights was the exhibition "Memórias do Rio: Ecos de Resistência," produced by the Fórum da Luta Antimanicomial de Sorocaba in collaboration with artists Discórdia, Margarida Libre, and Étore Piqueira.

This exhibition addresses the threats to the demarcated region of the Sorocaba River, seeking to shed light on the forgotten narratives of the city that often remain outside the official history. It revisits silenced memories, particularly touching upon themes of structural violence and social exclusion, thereby emphasizing the importance of recognizing and addressing these issues. The installation invites visitors to reflect on how the city’s past influences its present and the socio-political dynamics shaping local communities.

By engaging with such critical topics, the festival not only promotes local talent but also aims to foster awareness and dialogue about pressing social concerns in the region. With its diverse programming, the Frestas festival serves as a platform for artistic expression while also leveraging the power of art to provoke thought and encourage community involvement in Sorocaba and beyond.
