The economy grew 4.4% in 2025, according to INDEC
Argentina's economy reported a growth of 4.4% in 2025, marking a significant recovery from previous years' downturns.
According to INDEC, Argentina's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased by 2.1% in the last quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, culminating in an overall growth of 4.4% for the year. This positive growth follows two consecutive years of contraction, with GDP declining by 1% in 2024 and by 1.6% in 2023. The 2025 figure is also notable given that the economy had grown by 5% in 2022, illustrating a recovery after a challenging economic period.
The annual growth was driven by several key factors, including a significant rise in private consumption by 7.9% and an increase in exports by 7.6%. Public consumption showed a modest increase of 0.2%, while gross fixed capital formation surged by 16.4%. These indicators suggest a revitalization of economic activity, with certain sectors exhibiting considerable growth such as financial intermediation, which increased by 24.7% year-on-year, mining and quarrying by 8.0%, and hotels and restaurants by 7.4%. However, the fishing sector faced a notable decline, dropping by 15.2%.
The recovery in 2025 is crucial as it signals a turnaround for Argentina after years of economic struggles. With consumption and investment on the rise, policymakers may find this an opportune moment to implement further reforms to maintain this growth trajectory. However, it is essential to also address the sectors that are still declining and ensure that the benefits of economic growth are widespread to avoid future volatility.
