Despite ups and downs, economic activity grew 4.4% in 2025
Argentina's economic activity expanded by 4.4% in 2025, despite a slowdown in various sectors towards the end of the year.
In 2025, Argentina experienced a 4.4% growth in economic activity, as reported by INDEC, amidst fluctuations in different sectors. The Monthly Economic Activity Estimator (EMAE) revealed a significant rebound of 1.8% in December compared to the previous month, marking the best outcome since July 2024, largely driven by a strong wheat harvest. This growth, however, was preceded by declines of 0.1% in November and 0.5% in October, indicating a mixed economic performance throughout the year.
Most of the annual growth occurred in the first half of 2025 when the economy achieved rates exceeding 6%. However, the second half saw a marked slowdown, with steep declines observed in the industrial sector, retail, and construction. This uneven economic trajectory underscores the volatility of sectors that heavily influence the overall economic landscape in Argentina.
The EMAE serves as a preliminary indicator of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which INDEC publishes quarterly. The final report for the last quarter of 2025, incorporating comprehensive data from the entire year, is set for release at the end of March, and the positive close of the year is better than many analysts had anticipated, considering the circumstances surrounding various sectors.
