New Evangelina Rosa Maternity intensifies human milk donation campaign
The Human Milk Bank at Nova Maternidade Dona Evangelina Rosa is launching a campaign to encourage donations to support premature and struggling newborns.
The Human Milk Bank at Nova Maternidade Dona Evangelina Rosa (NMDER) is actively seeking new donors as its supply of human milk has dwindled. Currently, the unit provides essential milk to approximately 32 premature babies and those facing breastfeeding challenges. The bank emphasizes the critical role of human milk in the recovery and development of these vulnerable infants, particularly in neonatal intensive care units where it can mean the difference between life and death.
Coordinator Vanessa da Paz has publicly invited healthy breastfeeding mothers to consider donating any surplus milk they may have. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of human milk, which is unique in its ability to deliver vital nutrients and bolster the immune systems of newborns. By participating in this initiative, mothers can significantly impact the health and well-being of babies in dire need of nutritional support.
As part of the outreach effort, the Human Milk Bank is looking to establish a community of donors, underscoring the importance of kindness and generosity among mothers in the region. The campaign also serves to educate the public about the benefits of breastfeeding and the critical need for human milk donations, particularly in the context of increasing neonatal care demands at the NMDER.
