A new competitor is coming to Woltti - delivery services starting after the summer

The Finnish food delivery platform Swype aims to replace Foodora's market share in Finland with its delivery service launching later this summer.

Swype, a Finnish food delivery platform established in 2023, is gearing up to fill the gap left by Foodora's departure from the Finnish market. The startup claims that it has already handled over 100,000 orders and partnered with more than 100 restaurants, all while operating with a modest advertising budget. With Foodora's exit, interest from food couriers surged, leading Swype to receive over a thousand new applications within just 24 hours following the news.

Currently, restaurants on Swype's platform are responsible for delivering their own products. However, the company plans to start its delivery services later this summer, setting the stage for a more comprehensive service model. Swype aims to differentiate itself in a competitive market by challenging the existing pricing models and ensuring fair wages for its couriers, as emphasized by CEO Casper Nordman in their press statements.

The entrance of Swype into the food delivery sector not only signifies an evolving landscape for delivery services in Finland but also highlights the potential impacts on local restaurants and the gig economy. As the shift in consumer preferences unfolds, it will be interesting to see how established players respond to Swype's arrival and how the cost of food delivery may change in the competitive market going forward.
