Here is Wolt's new challenger
Finnish food delivery platform Swype aims to fill the gap left by Foodora's exit from the Finnish market.
A new player has entered the Finnish food delivery market with Swype, a local order platform that intends to take over the space vacated by Foodora, which announced its departure from Finland in February. Following Foodora's exit, Swype reported an influx of applications from potential delivery drivers, indicating a strong interest in joining their platform. Currently serving all of Finland, Swype has around a hundred restaurants on its platform but seeks to expand aggressively in the near future.
Until now, Swype has not offered delivery services for restaurant orders; however, the company plans to operate both as an ordering platform and a delivery service moving forward. This shift comes at a crucial time as the Finnish food delivery landscape, which has been dominated by a duopoly, sees an opportunity for disruption thanks to Foodora's exit. The company believes that the news of Foodora leaving has energized the market, much like rocket fuel, enabling new entrants like itself to thrive.
Swype’s strategy distinguishes itself from competitors like Wolt and Foodora by not offering free deliveries. Instead, the CEO emphasized that maintaining higher wages for delivery drivers is a priority. This approach not only seeks to attract more drivers but also positions Swype as a responsible alternative in the competitive delivery market, which might resonate well with both restaurant partners and customers looking for quality service.
