Man arrested in Recife on suspicion of invading ex-girlfriend's building, shooting at the door, and threatening to set the place on fire
A man has been arrested in Recife for allegedly invading his ex-partner's apartment building, shooting at her door, and making threats to set her place on fire.
The Civil Police arrested a man in Recife on suspicion of breaking into his ex-partner's apartment and firing multiple shots at her door. André Maia Oliveira, 47, was previously on the run but turned himself in at the House Amarela Police Station. The police confirmed that he had violated a protective order by entering the victim's condominium, prompting further investigation.
During the incident, which occurred early Wednesday morning, the victim, a 39-year-old woman, was at home but fortunately was not injured. The police reported that Oliveira used a car to gain access to the building before proceeding to her apartment, where he discharged a firearm several times. Following the shooting, the woman was escorted from the scene and taken to the Women’s Police Station for her safety.
The arrest highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence and the effectiveness of protective measures in Brazil. Despite the absence of physical injuries, the incident raises alarms about the potential for escalation in such cases, and authorities are likely to scrutinize the enforcement of protective orders to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
